Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT)

Providing basic services (e.g. water supply, sewerage, urban transport) to households and build amenities in cities which will improve the quality of life for all, especially the poor and the disadvantaged is a national priority. In this context Honourable Prime Minister has launched a centrally sponsored scheme in June 2015.

The purpose of Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) is to:

  • Ensure that every household has access to a tap with assured supply of water and a sewerage connection;
  • Increase the amenity value of cities by developing greenery and well maintained open spaces (e.g. parks); and
  • Reduce pollution by switching to public transport or constructing facilities for non-motorized transport (e.g. walking and cycling).

Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation 2.0 (AMRUT 2.0)

Hon'ble Prime Minister launched AMRUT 2.0 on 1 October, 2021. AMRUT 2.0 is a step towards AatmaNirbhar Bharat with aim of making the cities 'water secure' and providing functional water tap connections to all households. This will be achieved through circular economy of water by effecting water source conservation, rejuvenation of water bodies and wells, recycle/ reuse of treated used water, and rainwater harvesting by involving community at large. This Mission will be run as people’s program i.e. Jan Aandolan. Mission also targets to provide 100% sewage/ septage management in 500 AMRUT cities.

Swarnim Jayanti Mukhya Mantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana (SJMMSVY)

As part of the 50-year celebration of the States’ establishment, the state government has launched “Swarnim Jayanti Mukhya Mantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana” from the year 2009-10 to strengthen and upgrade the infrastructure facilities at city level.

Under Swarnim Jayanti Mukhya Mantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana, infrastructure projects related to water supply and underground drainage in the cities of the state are being taken up by the Gujarat Municipal Finance Board and the Gujarat Urban Development Mission.
